Under immense pressure from all
quarters, Pakistan on Thursday announced that it will
release IAF pilot Abhinandan Varthaman. Pakistan Prime
Minister Imran Khan made this announcement in his address to the joint
session of parliament.
Indian Air Force (IAF) pilot Wing Commander
Abhinandan Varthaman has crossed over India at the Attari-Wagah border after
spending two days in Pakistan's captivity. His Mig-21 Bison fighter jet was
shot down by the Pakistan Army after an aerial skirmish between the countries'
air forces at the Line of Control in Jammu and Kashmir.
As the opposition leader Shehbaz Sharif took the
floor of the House, Prime Minister Khan apologized for interrupting him and
said he wishes to announce that the Indian pilot captured by Pakistan Air Force
on Wednesday will be released on Friday as a "peace gesture".
"In our desire for peace, I announce that
tomorrow (Friday), and as a first step to open
negotiations, Pakistan will be releasing the Indian Air Force officer in our
custody," Khan said.
So finally our prayers have come true, and our
true national hero has come back home safely. I really appreciate this gesture
from PM Imran Khan, whether it is because of political pressure or something
else, the thing which matters is he is ready to make the peace. Most
importantly our hero came back.
A moment of joy for every Indian.
